Gabriel Miró's Polop: a house, a fountain and a literary village

Polop's fountain square and hillside streets became part of Gabriel Miró's imaginative geography during summers spent here in the 1920s. The Casa Museo Gabriel Miró, beside the Plaza de los Chorros, gives that connection a physical address. It is a small stop that opens a larger walk through the village he knew.

The local story

The late nineteenth-century house, also known as Casa de los Xorros or Villa Pepita, now displays books, objects and family donations linked to the Alicante writer. Miró's Polop appears in Años y leguas, where landscape and observation matter as much as plot. The house is therefore most useful before a stroll: its rooms give names and objects to the square, water and mountain light outside.

Check the museum's current booking and opening arrangements with Polop tourism; published hours differ across older materials. Begin with the collection, then take time at the Chorros fountain and climb only as far as your group is comfortable through the old streets. Avoid treating residential doorways as museum exhibits. The views and the ordinary sound of water complete the visit.
