Relleu's dam walkway: the gorge beyond the old reservoir

Relleu's old dam makes more sense when seen against the narrow gorge it was built to close. The modern walkway leads visitors towards that view, turning a difficult mountain edge into a managed public experience. The attraction is not only height: it is the meeting of a historic water project and a steep, dry landscape.

The local story

The dam project began in the seventeenth century to secure water for the coast near La Vila Joiosa, and work continued through later reigns. Its setting along the Amadorio explains both the engineering ambition and the limits of a small catchment. The walkway is a new layer on that old story, making the gorge visible while keeping visitors on a defined route.

Plan the visit

Use the official walkway site to check tickets, weather and the current access route. The approach starts in Relleu and is a walk, not a stop directly beside the car; allow time and wear proper shoes. Stay behind barriers and supervise children near exposed sections. If the walkway is closed, the village and signed valley paths still make a worthwhile visit without crossing a fence.
