FIESTA OF SAN JUAN 23RD - 24TH JUNE

Did you know...
Spain will be celebrating the Fiesta of San Juan who is credited with protection and good luck on the nights ranging from 23rd - 24th June.

On the 23rd bonfires are lit at midnight along the beaches and celebrations and parties continue well into the early hours of the dia de San Juan.
It is traditional to wear white to represent purification and magic with much mention of brujas (witches). Everyone is invited to jump, up-to nine times, over the white embers whilst throwing wishes written on pieces of paper into the fire.

Locally this festival dates back to the days when farmers in Alicante celebrated the longest day of the year for harvesting crops and the shortest night for the destruction of evil.

At midnight on the 24th comes the traditional burning of 'ninots', towering figures of papier mache which are burnt in the streets with the bomberos (firemen) on hand dousing the crowds with water.

Last Wednesday saw yet again the success of The Variety Show Group and The Marina Tappers at Tony G's in Toretta II.
Performing together at an event hosted by Jackie and Tony these two very talented groups raised over €300 for Paul Cunningham Nurses.
It was a fun evening with some very talented voices, very fancy footwork and a good dash of humour thown in!

Auctionmania comes to Coopers Arms in Quesada!

Pots and Pans, Knives and Forks, a Lawnmower, Original Paintings and a Designer Dress and Jacket and the unusual too!
This is a fun auction for everyone to join in, there will be a Paraglide with Birds of Prey, this is called Parahawking, it's true take a look for yourself!
Abseiling for the beginner, a Scuba Dive and for the very brave a tattoo with 20% less pain!!
We will be introducing a bid for a meal section and a meal trail (like a pub crawl but with food!) and there will be a very clink clink tombola, so if anyone has a bottle to spare please drop it into Tim and Doreen at The Coopers Arms Dona Pepa or to the Paul Cunningham Nurses Charity Shop in Quesada.

Come along and bag a bargain on Friday July 1st, doors open at 6.30p.m.

Tickets for a 3 course meal, live music, dancing and your bidding number are just €12.50
A limited number of tickets for bidding number only are available at €2.50 and this includes a FREE drink!

MASQUERADE BALL

We are organising a fantastic Masquerade Ball at Castillo de Conesa (San Miguel Castle) on the 24th June, there will be a glass of champagne for all on arrival, 5 course meal and drinks included, Entertainment on the evening will be provided by ANDY JONES and SHANI ORMISTON (2 of the best singers on the Costas). On the night there will be prizes for the best dressed ball "KING" and "QUEEN", and also a grand prize raffle, so get all dressed up and come along to the castle and have a really great night.
Tickets are €35 and the proceeds are going to HELP 4 HEROES.
